It started with two sisters, a love of sport, and a very proud mum and dad.
Sport was always a big part of our family. My sister was particularly competitive, travelling for competitions and bringing home a medal nearly every week! I was sporty too, although perhaps a little more in it for the fun.
As her collection of medals grew, so did the problem of where to put them. Before long, her medals were hanging from coat hangers in her wardrobe because we couldn't find a medal holder that was affordable, Australian made and built to last.
My parents wanted her to have somewhere to proudly display everything she had worked so hard for. After searching high and low and finding that most medal holders were expensive and coming from overseas, Dad decided to make one himself.
With more than 20 years of experience in metal fabrication, he designed and made a medal holder for my sister.
Then her friends wanted one.
Then their friends wanted one.
And before long, a simple idea created for our family had turned into orders from a friend of a friend of a friend.
Australian Medal Holders was born in 2012.
Growing up around sport, I saw just how much goes into earning a medal.
Because a medal is never just a medal.
Behind every one is hours of training, early mornings, competitions, nerves, excitement, disappointment, determination and the people who supported you along the way.
Every medal tells a story.
And that's what has always been at the heart of Australian Medal Holders, celebrating the achievement and the story behind it.
Today, I'm taking over the family business and carrying forward what my mum and dad started all those years ago.
And it feels pretty special.
I grew up watching my sister compete, seeing her collection of medals grow and seeing just how proud Mum and Dad were of everything she achieved. I also grew up around the friendships, travel, fundraising and everything else that comes with being part of a sporting family.
Now, I'm bringing that family connection into the next chapter of Australian Medal Holders.
The business may be changing hands, but the heart behind it remains the same.
We believe every achievement deserves to be celebrated, from a child's very first medal to a lifetime of sporting accomplishments.
